Kiwa Comply now includes the requirements of the ISO 14001 environmental management standard.
The first version of Kiwa Comply, published in April 2023, supported the setting up of a management system to meet the requirements of the ISO 9001 quality management standard. Now, the service also includes the requirements of the ISO 14001 environmental management standard.
In both Finland and internationally, ISO 14001 is the second most widely used standard after ISO 9001, with many organisations implementing it for their management practices. Today, there is a growing emphasis on addressing environmental concerns in business operations, which has led to the increasing popularity of ISO 14001.
“Many major clients in different industries and areas of public administration have begun to demand that their supply chain have an ISO 14001-compliant environmental management system. We have also received many enquiries about this. As responsibility becomes more important, ISO 14001 is a very natural complement to ISO 9001. And since these standards share most of their requirements, they are also mutually supportive,” says Business Development Manager Laura Lindholm.
The ISO 14001 standard helps to manage and develop business, especially with regard to environmental aspects, for instance by reducing energy consumption and improving logistics efficiency. A certified management system is also a way to demonstrate to different stakeholders that the organisation bears responsibility for the environmental impacts it causes and is committed to reducing them through continuous improvement.
Next up: combining the requirements of ISO/IEC 27001 information security and ISO 50001 energy management systems
In the future, the service will also support other aspects of management. In 2024, Kiwa Comply will expand to cover the requirements of both the ISO/IEC 27001 information security management system standard and ISO 50001 energy management systems. In addition, Kiwa Comply will be further developed to facilitate more comprehensive management system management, based on the requirements and functional needs of other ISO standards.
“It has been a great experience to collaborate with our customers and directly address their needs while continuing to develop our product. We are eager to listen to all our stakeholders and remain committed to assisting organisations navigate their management processes,” says Product Owner Jyrki Lahnalahti.
